Ocean Kayak

The byword at Ocean kayak is “innovation”. As they rightly point out, they didn't invent the kayak, they just perfected it!

Since we're talking about innovation let's look at a few examples which Ocean Kayaks have been involved with over time.

• The roto molded kayak. Ocean Kayak was really one of the very first brands using the rotational molded technique for kayaks.

Basic Nautical Terms.

It really does help to visit some basic nautical terminology so that we are all on the same page.

The front of the boat = The Bow

When looking forward to the bow, the left side is the PORT and the right side is the STARBOARD.

Each Ocean kayak comes with a hull identification [ID] number. This number is found on the starboard side.

In the center part of the kayak you'll find the COCKPIT area. That's the place where the seat is.

There are some holes in the cockpit area called SCUPPERS. These scuppers go all the way through the kayak and provide drainage for water taken on board.

On most of the models there are BUNGEE cords right in front of the cockpit and behind the seat. The purpose of these is to enable you to secure gear to the kayak.

Near the cockpit you will find some small U shaped cleats. These are known as accessory strap eyes. That say you can secure a accessories such as a knee brace or a back brace to your Ocean Kayak.

Now that we've got some of the terminology and nautical terms out of the way, let's take a quick look at some of the range that Ocean Kayak has.

SINGLE KAYAKS

The Tetra 10 and The Tetra 12
both these crafts and very clean lines and a sleek smooth design. They are low-profile kayak to glide through the water easily. Obviously designed for one person both models feature a very comfortable hybrid seat. They weigh around 55 pounds and have a capacity to total of 350 pounds [158 kg].

The Frenzy.
The frenzy model has a great strong keyline and a good stability. It's a fun little craft which is reminiscent of the Yak Board. It weighs in at 43 pounds and has a maximum carrying capacity of 325 pounds [147 kg]. It comes with a molded cup carrier and side carry handles.

The prowler 13

The Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 has loads of great features that you simply need in this fishing kayak. It includes lots of places to mount your fishing gear, a big tank wwll and a huge bow hatch.

Its overall length is 13'4" [4.1 m] and ha a width at the seat of some 17 inches [43 cm]. It comes in at 54 pounds in weight [24.5 kg]. It's retail price is close to $800.
